Marco Antonio Lopez Marin graduated in Biotechnology Engineering at the Monterrey’s Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM, Monterrey, Mexico) and has an International Master in Environmental Technology and Engineering conducted at UCT Prague, Ghent University, and IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. Currently, he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Microbiology at UCT Prague under the supervision of Dr. Onřej Uhlík.
His main interests are the modification of procedures for the isolation of as-yet uncultured bacteria from the environment. He has published novel techniques of enhanced culturing which resulted in the isolation and characterization of novel bacterial species. He is a data analysis enthusiast, especially with the analysis of metagenomic data and the behavior of bacterial populations under different stresses and environments using R and Python.
He has also participated in projects where molecular techniques such as qPCR are applied, such as the quantification of bacterial populations, antibiotic-resistant genes, and the presence and quantification of COVID in wastewater effluents.
