Jan Bartacek is the head of the Anaerobic BioTechnology (ABT) group established at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering, UCT Prague. He studied at UCT Prague and after defending his Ph.D. (2006), he received two two-year PostDoc grants (Wageningen University and Institute for Water Education IHE Delft) in 2006 – 2010. In 2010, he returned to UCT where he has served first as an Assistant Professor and since 2015 as Associate Professor.
Besides antibiotic resistance spread in wastewater, Jan Bartacek’s research interests include anaerobic digestion for wastewater treatment, the optimization of anaerobic digestion through micronutrients supplementation, desulfurization of biogas by microaeration, anammox-based nitrogen removal&recovery from sewage and decentralized systems for greywater reuse. All his research projects fall within the topic of resource recovery from wastewater and are in a broader sense motivated by the efforts to introduce water management based on circular economy principles.
