Doctor Lukasz Dziewit represents the University of Warsaw, Poland. He is a co-founder of Drewniak and Dziewit group and a director of the Department of Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology. Dr. Dziewit has been interested in mobile genetic elements (MGEs) for quite a long time and his research in this matter has been continuously published since 2007.
Dr. Dziewit is also coordinating research on antimicrobial resistance in extremophiles using metagenomic, genomic, metatranscriptomic, and functional analyses. It is a further continuation and development of the previous project on bacterial plasmids, bacteriophages, and transposable elements (MGEs) isolated from extremely cold habitats. Currently, the group is significantly tending towards bioinformatics. Their recent publication presenting the need for validation of primers used in (q)PCR in search of ARGs in environmental samples put special emphasis on WWTPs and receivers of their effluent.
Dr. Dziewit and his team are working on issues with identifying ARGs toward the last resorts antibiotic, e.g. colistin.
